Install Process

01 | Install Concrete Pad

A 3" concrete pad is installed to provide a stable foundation for your Mata.

02 | Install Mata on Sewer Before Cesspool

After the concrete is dry we can come back to complete your install. This starts by routing your sewer line through the Mata.

03 | Install Vent

The Mata is vented to your roof line via a new vent stack.

04 | Restart Cesspool

We recommend a pump out and sulphuric acid treatment to restart your cesspool on the right foot from day one.

Mata and the Mandate

Currently, Mata is a UPC 1009 compliant solids separator, meaning it just needs an over-the-counter plumbing permit and install by a licensed plumber.

However, our work doesn’t stop with Mata. We’re also developing Patu and Sawa — excavation free liquid treatment and disposal systems that work with Mata to complete your cesspool replacement before the 2050 deadline. We are currently in the review process with the Department of Health for approval as an alternative technology to meet Act 125.

Mata Maintenance

Mata separates solids from raw sewage and then dehydrates and steralizes them for disposal. The inclusion of two solids bins allows one bin to be filling while the second is drying. Solids are removed and the bins swapped once every 4-12 weeks depending on your usage.
